Ryan has always given such unbelievable performance that it has allowed us as fans to feel as if he is part of our family. I cried and was disbelief for the rest of the night. I will miss Opie but take some satisfaction he went out true to who he has always been….a loyal brother and protector.

the look in his eyes when he looked back at jax and said I’ve got this … not be forgotten – that deserves an emmy nod if i ever saw one.
So disappointed in this storyline development. Opie was a key character and this will leave a gaping hole in the story. Perhaps Mr. Sutter has gone too far in reaching for shocking drama in each episode … i think this was a mistake.

For the avid viewer of TV drama, there are moments in time that just leave you in a state of disbelief shock & profound, genuine sorrow. “Opie’s” final scene in SOA was one of them. I hadn’t been a fan of this show for very long, but I’m a “must see” fan from now on, and the character of “Opie” was the most immediate and endearing for me because of his unconditional loyalty and friendship. I have a coworker-friend that is also a fan of this series, & I’ve told him before how much he reminded me of this character. Seeing “Opie” get slaughtered like that was like watching my good friend on the recieving end of that attack, I litterally anguished in front of the TV screen, can’t remember the last time I cringed like that watching a television show. The sincere and passionate conveyances here for the remarkable work of Mr. Hurst on this series speaks huge volumes for his acting prowess & many of them are echoes of my sentiments as well.

That was a shocker. I was hoping it was going to be Clay, since he is the main reason for all this. Yes, Tig tried to run over the popes daughter. But it still goes back to Clay. Death to Clay. Revenge Opies death.

I am sorry that Opie went out that way. He had more honor then most. He reminded me of the kind of person I would always want as a brother and a friend. It was real pain I felt tonight. I don’t know what Ryan feels about all this. He is an actor and a professional playing a role and he saw that role all the way through brilliantly. I know all these characters will probably end badly. That is the life of an outlaw. I hope he still has something to do with the show (direct or write for instance). I liked him before he was Opie. So I hope to see what is next for him and whatever new vista is coming. For me, I will never forget this character. I will mourn him just as I have for other great characters. This is the way fiction (good fiction) is.

Please say this was just a nightmare someone had. This show has a way of making you feel like you’re a part of it. It feels so real. It feels like a family member died. Worse than when Marissa got killed off of the OC. Please bring Opie back.

I was in complete shock that Opie was killed off, he and Jax are my fav’s. I have to give it to him, he did an AWESOME job taking that role. Love his character and love the show!! I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Now that his character is gone, what will he do now?

i have been watching this show since day one, and i loved the brotherly love between jackson and opie. They made the show part of what made it so great to watch. I wish it could have been different but opie hasnt been the same since donna died and with piney’s death he just got worse. i think he left that world protecting his brother because really jax was all he had left. he loved his kids but with out his wife and his dad and his “brother” opie had no one left. i cried when it happened and i will watch the first 4 seasons just to see him..

man opie was arguably the most popular character on the show certainly my favourite very deep, complex wounded character who ryan hurst played so well .. his death will leave a big scar on the show .. but you gotta have respect for kurt sutter because this was a very very ballsy gutsy move.. he knows how emotionally invested we got into opie and to take him out in the way he did wow.. the jax we are used to is dead now we will see now a very cold hard jax which we got a taste of when he was talking to pope about tig after opie died …

I feel like I lost a friend when Sons aired last night…. I know that a part of Opie died when Donna was murdered, but I always thought he’d stick it out for his kids. So sad to see him leave this show, and in such a heart-wrenching and shocking way. Only the good die young…. RIP Opie.

Love the show and I always have. What is amazing to me is how we sit in front of our tv’s every week to watch our favorite shows and we become part of the story. We get wrapped up in the stories and the emotions of the characters . That is what a great writer does . He makes us feel all the emotions, love , hate , anger , sadness, bitterness and revenge. Every week I walk away feeling something different. Last night I cried, I was angry , I was confused , but most of all I wanted revenge. I think because of the writer and the outstanding performance by Ryan Hurst this is my most favorite tv show episode of all time. Not because Opie died ( because he was my favorite) but because I felt like I was there. Ryan Hurst , I have been a fan of yours throughout your career and I will stay tuned in whatever becomes of you my friend. Good Luck in all you do , you are an Outstanding actor!

If Opie had to go this episode couldnt have been written any better. The symbolism and raw emotion invoked in this episode proved once again what a good actor Ryan Durst is, as well as the creative genius Sutter and company are. We were all reminded we are not watching a children’s fairy tale sitcom. Kurt Sutter redeemed himself against the critics who called last season soft. However, I wish Ryan was given more time as his character was a fresh breathe every time he had show time. I feel writing Ryan Durst off the show was premature as his character had more to give and was owed a lot. Opie was the epitome of the f’ing cool calculated badass biker dude we all came to love. You just wanted to know what he would do next as he was so unpredictable. However, Opie never came off like he was batshit nuts like Tig is. It’s heartbreaking and a real shame to end his character now. He was owed restitution from Jax and the club and not because of his brutal death. We know Jax will avenge Opie’s death, but Opie should have at least been given the opportunity to have Jax and the club prove their loyalty to him while he was alive. RIP Opie it won’t be the same without you

There are no words to describe how sad I feel about Ope ‘s death. I truly cried and screamed like a baby when they were killing him. I absolutely thought I was going to die myself. Poor Ope. I will miss you brother.

I was blown away last night, a cruddy way to go, but with such honor and guts.
I felt the back of my head explode when they hit Opie with that pipe. His death felt like one of brothers died.
Tig messed up big time… and there will be hell to pay…. There was no way out for Jax and the decision, Opie did the Honorable thing and took care of his Brother not just mc brother but spiritual, he took care of SAMCRO, and I can not wait til they off Clay. And look forward to watching Tig pay. and the guard pay and pope pay. NO ONE screws SAMCRO.

btw I think this ripped the heart out of Jax and will make him ruthless since Opie was his check and balance.

I’m a grown man with a family but I sobbed like a child. I tried to keep myself from crying and that just made it worse. I sobbed for 20 minutes. I couldn’t believe it! It hurt so much. Haven’t felt this was since Tony kill Christopher!

Opie will forever be the MAN. His loyalty and dedication to Jax will never be matched. It is so crazy how a fictional character can mean SO much to everyone. Great job Ryan Hurst, you are an incredible actor who made so many people love your character to the point that tears where shed to see you go. Like many other fans I vowed against ever watching another episode after Opie’s death. However, after 2 days of sorrow (over a fictional character) I do believe I will continue to watch the show for one reason, REVENGE. Opie’s death can not be like any other before him, where a simple funeral is held and that is the last we hear. Opie needs to live on in EVERY episode, much like J.T. Teller’s memory.

Im a grown man who has watched many gripping dramas and action series over the years.. Never have I cried like I did when I realized Opie was going to die..i bawled like a baby and Ryan flat out DESERVES an Emmy for his role in the show. Opie went through so much for the club and still stood up for Jax to protect him in jail and then gave up his life for the club.. So sad, two days later I am tearing up while typing this.

Well, all I can say is wow. This episode was one of the more powerful ones in the SOA catalog. I’m still in a kind of shock about Op being bludgeoned to death. Opie was the tough and silent type, dangerous and cautious all rolled into one. He will be missed as Jax’ top soldier, loyal and true to Jax. Bobby may be a great VP to Jax and Chibs a trusted Sgt at Arms, but they could not hold a candle to Opie’s loyalty and protection. In retrospect, to me I think the line in the last episode that he didn’t love anything anymore made him the choice and then when Jax started spilling all the beans about Galindo(sp?) and why Piney died…I knew he was. Regards to Ryan Hurst, excellent work in this series. I know you’ve been doing some production and direction with FX, you would do well to shadow Mr. Sutter. On a lighter note, I think there are two Harleys for sale at Teller-Morrow Garage.

There was a look of peace in his eyes when the death blow was delivered.
He was a character who is deserving of some rest from the torment of his life.
His passing was profound and to be honest only makes me want a conclusion for Jax that much more.

First Opie, now Johnny Lewis. What the hell? Ryan Hurst was my favorite, but I get why Kurt Sutter made the choice that he did. While we all mourn the death of Opie, Half-Sack’s true life portrayer is dead for real. Ryan, I wish you the best in all of your future endeavors, and Johnny, R.I.P. man. So very tragic all the way around, it’s just sad to hear people say that Johnny flipped out because Opie died. A little more respect people. Just sayin…

This is going to sound harsh, but I don’t even want to watch Sons anymore. I’m running out of people to like on the show with the discovery last season that Clay had John Teller killed, and then murdered Piney to cover it up, Tig losing his head and unintentionally taking out Pope’s daughter, then last Tues Gemma goes back to being evil and manipulative, and Opie is brutally murdered. I was really rooting for him, the underdog of the show, who kept getting shafted by the club. I liked it better when Jax was inspired by his father, after reading his journal, to get the club out of running guns and I admired Tara standing her moral ground about raising children in the club. Now they’re becoming a bunch of self-serving thugs who will go to any length to get what they want. But then again, it’s Sons of Anarchy, not Sons of Peace, Love, and Harmony. They’re just really heavy on the anarchy part this season.

So I wonder what the ratings will be like next week. Because it seems like more people were unhappy with the decision to off Ope (and some even said they’d stop watching) than those who praised Sutter with “gutsy” or “ballsy” writing.

I’m probably different than the rest. As sad as I am to have sat and watched Opie die, I am moved by the reasoning behind the death. Sutter is an amazingly talented writers and I kept that in mind while watching. Opie sacrificed himself for the love of his brothers and club even after living with the knowledge that those same things took away all that he once loved in life. When asking Lyla to watch the kids, he told her that he didn’t think he loved anything anymore. True probably, but in the end, it wasn’t just a get out of life free card…he did it for the club and to save his brothers. RIP OPIE!

RIP OPIE… You went out like a TRUE SON… Fighting against the enemy… JAX will avenge your death… And as for POPE… I’m sure SUTTER has something horrible in mind… Can’t wait to check your next project!!!

I have to say, I’m pissed at Sutter for the Opie death. That was pretty much the most painful thing I’ve ever watched on TV. I’m really floored. Kinda devastated. Don’t know what to do with myself. Ugh.

Opie’s huge heart, loyalty and love for his brothers, taking ‘one’ for the MC made this one of the saddest, deeply disturbing and devastating moments in the series….Im so livid, that Op was ‘killed’ off…now what?

This is bullsh*t! Why in the hell would they kill Opie off the show! Come on really? The producers are morons, I wouldn’t be shocked to see their ratings drop after killing off a main character! Op was one of the best characters, loyal to the club, and Jax but now the whole situation of SAMCRO coming out on top and becoming what JT intended for the MC to be will be hard to pull off without one of the main characters that stood by Jax and every decision he made for the club! Should have killed A no name crew member, the cartel (CIA) should have had them out before this took place, hopefully Op ends up surviving the attack and makes it back on the show, most likely they won’t do that, but it would be nice, now the question is, who is gonna take care of Op’s kids? Who is gonna be Jax right hand man? Who is gonna eventually kill clay? I’m mean really guys, you could have let him stay at least to get clay back for murdering his old man! My overall opinion of episode 3 was THE WORST EPISODE EVER FOR ANY TV SERIES and done be surprised to get tons of hate mail over it or for the show to go to sh*t

I think I read somewhere that Sutter said that he did what he did to create a catalyst for change in Jax’s character. But you already had that catalyst with the revelations about his father’s death and his accession to the Presidency. Yes, it was dramatic, but that doesn’t mean it was the right choice. That doesn’t mean it was “ballsy” or “gutsy” writing move, either. I think it was just a clumsy, clueless ploy. It was just as unnecessary as killing Hale. Maybe it’s a symptom of his limitations as a writer and an imaginative person that he goes around killing characters for no other reason than creating an impact or as a plot device. It’s like he couldn’t see the impact this character made and would have made by continuing to live. I can’t help thinking that if Sutter appreciated Opie the way we do here on this page, he wouldn’t have done him like that. Opie could have done so much more. And the absence of his surly soulfulness leaves a gaping hole in the show. Wrong move, Kurt. Just because nobody saw it coming doesn’t mean you’re cool for making that choice. We are all poorer for it.

If you understood ope’s character you would know that he was so loyal he would sacrifice his life for jax’s. Also, look at what he has been through. The killing of his wife and father, while knowing the man behind it all is still at the table. I think Sutter is freaking genius by killing ope’s character(although I was truly saddened, and furious at the time watching it). He has been hinting the whole time, that opie has been looking for a way out. He became wreckless after Donna’s death..when jax said “don’t make me kill you ope.” He laughed and fired away. Jax will revenge his death don’t question that. Sutter has created a whole new story line with this. Let the man work and just watch the show. RIP Opie.

I liked the idea of opies character, but did anyone find the acting very lifeless and boring thougout season 2 and on?

I really don’t agree with killing off opie by doing so you think it will up the hype of the show but people are liking it less i am a really huge fan of the but that was by far the worst disappointment ever instead of killing him off you could have had more creative thought of keeping him in most people got he was the next to die because what he was going through so it was predictable instead of being predictable you should have twisted it you may say you have your reasons for the 6th season but the show lost a great actor and main character the show just isn’t the same

Can’t belive they killed of Opie he was the only reason I started to watch the show! He was the best character I was so pissed off! Would have been better if he killed one or two of them before they killed him at least . Ryan you are a legend one of my fav actors
